Dawn Batchelder is one of Chelmsford Family Practice’s physician assistants. One role of the physician assistant is to educate patients and help them understand and control their own treatment; a second is to diagnose and treat patients who need routine care or need to be seen when sick. Much like a doctor, physician assistants are licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to prescribe medications and order necessary medical tests.
Dawn’s work often involves prescribing medication, appropriate diet, exercise and therapy. She performs school and camp physicals, sees and treats sick patients, performs annual gynecological exams with pap smears and orders mammograms.
Dawn’s previous work experience includes serving as a General Internal Medicine Physician Assistant and as a Neurosurgical Physician Assistant at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She also served as a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.
